green bay: more bay beach + cheese curds

We made another trip to Bay Beach later in the week when Graysen, Naomi, and Steph had joined us. I'm pretty sure it was the hottest day of the year and we were all pretty miserable. On the plus side, hardly anybody was there so we didn't have to wait in lines. The best part was riding the zippin pippin because it produced such a nice breeze.

These two were completely content to play on the playground.

Elsa overheard some of our group talking about how the Tilt-a-whirl makes them sick so she did not want to try it. I asked her if she wanted to ride the tea cups instead and she happily agreed. (In a questionable parenting moment, I simply renamed the tilt-a-whirl.) She was so excited for the ride but quickly demanded for the ride to stop once we got spinning and didn't stop. 

We didn't last too long at Bay Beach and eventually retreated to our old favorite spot, Zesty's, for some frozen custard and famous Wisconsin butter burgers. I know it sounds questionable, but they are awesome. We also had another Wisconsin staple, fried cheese curds! Oliver stole most of ours. I think we had cheese curds at least three times that week.

Some of us headed to an indoor water park later in the afternoon and had fun swimming/cooling off.

green bay: bay beach

One of our first orders of business in Green Bay was a visit to Bay Beach Amusement Park. Bay Beach is a fantastic little amusement park on the water that has been around for years. We would go often when I was a kid. There is no admission fee to the park. Tickets for rides are 25 cents (up from 10 cents when I was a kid) and rides require only 1 or 2 tickets.

My dear friend Kristilyn came all the way from Minneapolis to hang out with us a bit and she and her mom joined us for a hot afternoon at Bay Beach.

Oliver wanted out of the boats (and into the water) and unfortunately there were no seat belts.

He had to be removed.

We quickly discovered that Amelia had outgrown the kiddie rides and was much happier on the bigger rides. 

Elsa had a blast on all of the smaller rides.

Elsa helped herself to Kristilyn's ice cream cone and had an ice cream face most of the day.

Kristilyn took Amelia on the ferris wheel. I don't know why, but I didn't get any pictures of me and Kristilyn.

I was a little slow getting pictures of the big slide.

  

Bay Beach recently purchased a "new" roller coaster, the Zippin Pippin. It was actually a super fun coaster (and Elvis's favorite) that used to be at Libertyland in Memphis in the 70s. Amelia was so excited to ride it, but she missed the cut-off by less than 1/2 inch!

It was such a hot day. We couldn't resist getting ice cream cones before we headed home.

Lounging around in my parent's backyard in the evenings was always a pleasant way to end the day.
