Columbus Day: donuts and dinosaurs

Ben made it home late Saturday night but had to leave again Monday morning for another work trip. The kids had the day off for Columbus Day so I decided a trip to the Virginia countryside was in order. The girls had been begging me to take them to Dinosaur Land after they saw the pictures from my visit with Oliver and Simon. So I decided to work it into a trip to a pumpkin patch. We stopped at the Apple House for apple cider donuts. They were warm and delicious and we devoured them quickly. Then we stopped by Dinosaur Land before heading to the pumpkin patch. The girls were not disappointed with Dinosaur Land. They loved running around making faces and poses with each dinosaur.

We were having a new HVAC installed a few weeks ago (the joys of owning a home) and I needed to keep the boys out of the house all day while they worked on it (took them 10 hours). A trip to the countryside was definitely in order. And most trips to the countryside involve a stop at my favorite bakery, Red Truck. We stocked up sandwiches for later and an assortment of pastries. Oliver had his eye on a big chocolate cupcake with raspberry buttercream. He enjoyed every last bite. Of the frosting anyway.

Our next stop was Dinosaur Land! My friend Jessica had told me about this gem. A fantastic "vintage" Virginia roadside attraction in the middle of nowhere. This place was truly awesome. The dinosaurs were hilarious. And old. Oliver loved it. Simon didn't seem to notice the giant replicas. The girls saw the pictures and are dying to go. Looks like we might need a return trip.
