planes + trains

On another delightful winter afternoon a few weeks ago, we went to Gravelly Point to watch the planes. We also walked along the Potomac for a bit. I love this particular walk because we get to see the trains pass by, boats on the water, and lots of airplanes in the sky.

We walked to the school to get Amelia and let her linger with a friend on the playground until it was almost dark.

Elsa was determined to scare away all of the geese.

a mild winter? i accept.

A few weeks ago, on one of our many 60 degree days this winter, we spent the afternoon with some friends at Beverley Park (one of our favorites). Amelia had the day off of school so she was able to enjoy the beautiful weather with us. After we left the park, we decided we couldn't go indoors just yet, so we made a stop at Wendys for some frostys and then walked around Huntley Meadows. The early evening sun was so gorgeous.

I took Elsa and Oliver to the soft play room at the Rec Center a few weeks ago. They had a blast. And definitely favored the ball pit.

Oliver wears a suit. And we all have a good laugh.

Except Oliver.

Perhaps because the suit was a bit too big.

But this kid can't stay sad for long.

Valentine's Day Tea

I surprised the girls with a little Valentine's Day tea party after school with pink lemonade and heart-shaped brownies. And heart-shaped pancakes for dinner.

Valentines.

It had been a few years since I made cake pops so we decided to make some Valentine-themed cake pops on Monday after school. We put them in flower pots for teachers. The girls had fun assembling their school Valentines while we were staying at a cabin on Saturday. Elsa's fishbowl Valentine came from here and Amelia's owl Valentine was a recycled idea from a few years ago.

Each year we put out small mailboxes around the first of February so we can leave each other little notes and treats.
