family photos.

Ever since our first visit to Fort Washington several years ago, I have been dying to take family photos there. There are the most beautiful textures and colors and old, worn surfaces everywhere. And fun staircases that lead to dark creepy places. The kids love to run around there and we're usually the only people around. I finally attempted a photo shoot there last month to get a family photo for our Christmas card. It went much better than I expected considering that the kids usually ignore me when I'm behind the camera. I used my tripod for the family shots and was surprised that everyone was usually looking at the camera. I realized AFTER the photo shoot that my camera has continuous shooting for the timer so I could have avoided running back and forth like a crazy person. But it amused Oliver.

The kids wore down after an hour and the place was shutting down but there are so many other locations I would love to experiment with there. Perhaps next year will bring another family portrait at Fort Washington...

Elsa was usually doing some version of this.

Amelia was really into coming up with her own poses.

Oliver was usually putting something in his mouth.

  1. Next time send a card with ALL your photos. The first time I went to Ft. Washington I had the same reaction: perfect for family photos.

  3. Sarah-you did a great job! I, too, have always wanted to have family pics taken there. I absolutely love the turquoise door in the "bridge" area... and I love the bright yellow house. One day :)
