A trip down the Anacostia River.

The pontoon boat tour at the Bladensburg Waterfront Park had been on my "Outdoor places to explore" list for several years but we'd never made it there. (Will we ever run out of things to do here?!) My friend Jessica recently went and gave it a positive review so we finally decided to check it out. It's just down the road from the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens so we stopped by after our visit there. The park offers bike, canoe, kayak, and paddle boat rentals for a fee. But they also have a daily pontoon boat tour you can take for free!

Everyone had to wear a life jacket, even little Simon. It was super hot outside but the boat was covered and we got a nice breeze as we rode down the river. It put Simon right to sleep. We rode past the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens and turned around at the National Arboretum. We saw some wildlife including lots of turtles and we even saw an osprey dive down and grab a fish.

We had a relaxing afternoon at home and the kids cooled off in the pool.
