Oak View Park

We visited the cotton farm (Historic Oak View County Park) yesterday afternoon with my mom. The azaleas are already blooming and it was a pretty day on the farm. The kids did a little scavenger hunt to find certain artifacts around the farm.

Easter weekend.

We had a pretty low key Easter weekend which was just what we needed on the last weekend before this baby comes. We just enjoyed being together and the kids spent lots of time playing in the backyard on Saturday (it rained most of the day Sunday). We colored lots of eggs on Saturday and some friends (the Jones family) from Virginia were passing through the area so they stopped for a visit and we did a backyard Easter egg hunt with them which was fun. The kids sang with the primary in church on Sunday and then we had a relaxing afternoon, prepping a simplified Easter dinner. Amelia helped me make my Grandma Bronson's traditional bunny cake which we always made growing up. She had fun making the marshmallow bunnies. It turned out to be a super tall cake and we're still eating it two days later. We did several activities in the few weeks leading up to Easter to focus on the real meaning of Easter which was really nice. We ended the weekend by picking up my mom at the airport! Now we're ready for this baby to come...

Friday night with Simon

This past Friday night the bigger kids participated in a nature program at a local nature center. We dropped them off for the 3 hour program and they had a great time walking through the wetlands and mud looking for critters and learning about amphibians. They watched a movie and had popcorn too. While they were doing that, I took Simon to Pullen Park and let him ride the boats and we did the train ride together. It was fun to spend some one-on-one time with him. Ben met us for dinner at Gonza Tacos and we had the most delicious meal. I tried their chilaquiles and it was excellent. Simon made us laugh when he randomly picked up my phone in the middle of dinner, took a few photos of his quesadilla and then set it back down. Definitely a child of Instagram. He's obviously seen me take food photos many times and wanted to join in. I forgot how easy dining with one child could be.

Egg hunt at the Arboretum

This was our second year participating in the Easter egg scavenger hunt at the arboretum. It was such a beautiful morning to wander around the arboretum and enjoy the beautiful blossoms. The kids loved searching for the eggs and trying to figure out the "secret word." They were rewarded with flower seed packets which we planted at home the next day.
