Columbus Day: Wayside Farm

We spent the afternoon at Wayside Farm. My friend Jessica had discovered this little gem a few weeks earlier so we decided to give it a try. The kids loved all of the farm activities and the hay ride. We had fun watching the pig races and picked a few pumpkins before we left. The pumpkin patch was huge and there were so many varieties of pumpkins growing. It was a fun but exhausting day. I was happy to get everyone into bed that night.

Columbus Day: donuts and dinosaurs

Ben made it home late Saturday night but had to leave again Monday morning for another work trip. The kids had the day off for Columbus Day so I decided a trip to the Virginia countryside was in order. The girls had been begging me to take them to Dinosaur Land after they saw the pictures from my visit with Oliver and Simon. So I decided to work it into a trip to a pumpkin patch. We stopped at the Apple House for apple cider donuts. They were warm and delicious and we devoured them quickly. Then we stopped by Dinosaur Land before heading to the pumpkin patch. The girls were not disappointed with Dinosaur Land. They loved running around making faces and poses with each dinosaur.

 

saturday outing: Ikea + aviation + disc golf

Ben was out of town for work a few weeks ago and ended up having to stay longer than planned so we were on our own for this Saturday outing.

We started at Ikea and picked up a few Christmas decorations. Then we headed to the College Park Aviation Museum. This was our first time here and I really loved it. They had some great exhibits and some great hands-on activities for the kids. They had fun trying on aviation outfits, climbing into a real cockpit, building with legos, and making some crafts. They even gave the kids little goodie bags on the way out. And to top it off, there was hardly anyone else there. The museum is located on the grounds of the world's oldest continuously operating airport which is pretty cool. We didn't see any planes take off, but we did see a groundhog roaming around on the runway and a few deer.

There was a disc golf course just down the street so we decided to stop and play. It had rained for nearly a week straight and it finally let up by the time we left the museum so we were eager for an outdoor activity. I was surprised how much the kids loved playing. It had been awhile since we played. Even Oliver loved to keep up with us and get his disc in every basket.

We ended the day with a visit to the playground at Lee District and then the kids put on a show for me at the amphitheater.
