Road Trip: Vermont (hikes and sunsets)

We were so excited to spend several days with Dan, Rachel, James and Isla. We had only been to Burlington in the winter so it was fun to see it in summer. Now we understand why they call Vermont the Green Mountain State! Beautiful green vistas everywhere we drove. Vermont greeted us with some rain and cooler temperatures but the kids just wanted to play with their cousins so they didn't mind. And the cooler temperatures felt nice after a warm North Carolina summer. We loved just relaxing, hanging out, enjoying Rachel's delicious cooking, and exploring. We went on a hike one day and all the kids ended up wet and happy. We got burgers and fries at Al's. And one evening we walked to a park near my brother's house that had the most beautiful views of Lake Champlain.

Road Trip: Maine (Cadillac Mountain)

Our final stop in Acadia National Park was the summit of Cadillac Mountain, the highest mountain on the eastern seaboard. The 360-degree view of the jagged coastline around the island was amazing.

Back in the car for the 6-hour drive to Burlington, Vermont. The kids were so anxious to get to their cousins' house. The drive through New Hampshire was gorgeous. I wish we could have stopped and spent some time in the White Mountains. We passed through several quaint mountain towns and happened upon one covered bridge. 

We had to pick up some Timbits at Tim Hortons. (A nostalgic treat from our honeymoon in Nova Scotia.)

Road Trip: Maine (Acadia National Park)

We spent the morning exploring Acadia National Park, or at least as much as was possible in one morning. We could have spent days exploring and hiking (well, maybe not with kids). We went on a short hike that followed the jagged coastline and then stopped at Sand Beach to dip our toes in the frigid water (it doesn't get above 55 degrees). Brrrr.
