NCMA sculpture park

It had rained for several days straight so we were thrilled to get out on a beautiful walk at the Art Museum sculpture park. The boys loved running through the leaves and the fall colors were beautiful.

Simon was so proud of the lizard he caught one afternoon. "Mommy! I caught a wizard!"

Simon.

I can't get enough of this kid and his crazy curls and silly faces. He's so much fun right now.

I love seeing the colors change outside our windows.

Halloween

I started Halloween with an early morning run at Crowder Park. The fall colors were so pretty. It was a gorgeous day so after completing some morning chores at home, we all headed to a fun park for a picnic. Ben and I had fun playing with the kids on the playground and enjoying the great weather.

The kids got so excited about all the old costumes when we brought them out of the attic that we didn't end up buying any costumes this year. Simon was an elephant, Oliver wanted to be the same astronaut as last year, Elsa was a vampire (same costume from a few years ago) and Amelia was a huntress (but basically wore the same costume as last year). We went trick-or-treating in our neighborhood in the evening. The girls got to ride around in a wagon pulled by our neighbor's four-wheeler. They loved it. They stayed out about an hour longer than us and went to another neighborhood down the street. The girls ended up with a ridiculous amount of candy. The boys had fun trick-or-treating on our street. There are only about 20 houses but they all hand out a ton of candy, and even some full-size candy bars. It was fun to watch the kids sort their candy at the end of the night and make trades. The girls just end up stashing theirs away and hardly eat any of it.

Old Salem + Greensboro Children's Museum

I wandered around Old Salem with the boys one day to enjoy the fall colors. We picked up some treats in the bakery. Wandering the streets of Old Salem, admiring the old buildings and doors and pretty trees wasn't exactly thrilling for the boys so I made sure to include a stop at the Greensboro Children's Museum which appealed more to their tastes. They were very happy.

Book Character Day

The girls had to choose a character from a book and dress up as her for "Book Character Day" (aka the school version of Halloween). Elsa chose Ramona the Pest and Amelia chose Zia from the Kane Chronicles. We watched the parade at school and Simon loved seeing all of the kids in costume.

A pretty view in our backyard.

Simon at the ward Halloween party. I was in charge of a fishing game for the kids. There was also a chili cook-off. I made my mom's white chicken chili and won third place!
