road trip part 2: a moment in tennessee

We were exhausted when we arrived at our hotel Thursday night around 11 (particularly Ben who had just arrived home early that morning from Michigan? Ohio? It's hard to keep track). Amelia, Elsa and Simon promptly went to sleep. Oliver was distraught when we arrived and didn't seem to like the hotel room. He was out of sorts and would not settle down and go to sleep. He wandered from bed to bed. Pretty soon it was midnight and we were really ready for him to fall asleep. We let him watch a show on the iPad to keep him from screaming (which is particularly difficult to deal with in a hotel situation during sleeping hours) and I was sure it would put him right to sleep. Nope. He could not settle down long enough to fall asleep. He continued to be restless and unhappy and zoned out to the ipad. Finally at THREE A.M.!!! he drifted off to sleep. Then Simon woke up at 5 and I fed him. Then Oliver woke up screaming at 6:30 which woke up Simon. It was a super fun night. We were relieved just to get out of that hotel room and back on the road.

At least we had beautiful views that morning. Our drive took us through Tennessee briefly and then into North Carolina. So green and lush. We really wanted to visit Great Smoky Mountain National Park which was just another hour down the road, but just couldn't fit it in. Next time.
