Road Trip: Maine (Cadillac Mountain)

Our final stop in Acadia National Park was the summit of Cadillac Mountain, the highest mountain on the eastern seaboard. The 360-degree view of the jagged coastline around the island was amazing.

Back in the car for the 6-hour drive to Burlington, Vermont. The kids were so anxious to get to their cousins' house. The drive through New Hampshire was gorgeous. I wish we could have stopped and spent some time in the White Mountains. We passed through several quaint mountain towns and happened upon one covered bridge. 

We had to pick up some Timbits at Tim Hortons. (A nostalgic treat from our honeymoon in Nova Scotia.)

Road Trip: Maine (Acadia National Park)

We spent the morning exploring Acadia National Park, or at least as much as was possible in one morning. We could have spent days exploring and hiking (well, maybe not with kids). We went on a short hike that followed the jagged coastline and then stopped at Sand Beach to dip our toes in the frigid water (it doesn't get above 55 degrees). Brrrr.

Road Trip: Maine (Bass Harbor Head Light)

I knew we were pushing it with our time constraints, but we couldn't be so close to Acadia National Park and not go! We drove a few more hours north, arrived at Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island in the evening, and headed straight for Bass Harbor Head Light. This was our final lighthouse in Maine and the dramatic setting on a rocky cliff with the sun setting in the background was gorgeous.

The scenery was beautiful as we drove around the island to our hotel. We arrived just before the sun went down so we didn't get much time to enjoy the beautiful views at the hotel. Even though it was nearly dark and pretty cold, the kids insisted on swimming in the outdoor pool. Ben was kind enough to swim with them.
