great country farms

We tried to pack in as much as possible the week before school started. We hit up a few water parks. We also made a trip to Great Country Farms. We had been once last year and loved it. It's out in the beautiful countryside of Virginia. It has an endless amount of fun things for the kids to do. The best part was, we pretty much had the places to ourselves the whole time. There are countless playground areas and slides, rope swings, farm animals to feed, a corn pit, mini golf, a maze, and of course the giant jumping pillow. And my favorite part...adirondack chairs everywhere to sit and enjoy the perfect weather, country views, and my children.

Oliver was not a fan of the jumping pillow.

Everyone was sooo dirty (covered in white powder) after playing in the corn.

Oliver is obsessed with climbing up slides. He will get so mad at the slide until he is able to do it. He made it up all of the tube slides here. A highlight of my day was riding down the slides with all the kids. We would get going so fast and they would laugh so hard.

We got to take a wagon ride to the apple orchard and pick honeycrisp apples. Yum!

As soon as Oliver realized there were apples everywhere, he grabbed a few, plopped down, and got busy eating.

sunday morning stroll.

A few weeks ago we enjoyed a beautiful walk around the Tidal Basin. We wanted to visit one of our favorite memorials, the FDR, and then just kept going and made stops at the Martin Luther King Memorial, WWII, and Jefferson.

jones point park. again.

We were faced with another potentially rainy Saturday a few weeks ago but wanted to be outside. So we headed back to Jones Point Park. There is lots of car-free parking lot space to ride bikes and it's covered by the bridge if it happens to rain. Ben and I took turns playing with the kids at the park while we each did a run across the Wilson Bridge. It was perfect weather for a run. Overcast and not too warm. The rain managed to stay away all morning.

The kids loved the playgrounds and also had fun checking out the lighthouse.
