This morning we did a fabulous bike ride from Mount Vernon to Teddy Roosevelt Island (near Georgetown). It was the whole length of the Mount Vernon Trail which is 18 miles. It is such a scenic ride going through woods, along the river, through Old Town, past the monuments, and into woods again. We have biked/walked/run many parts of this trail, but never the whole thing so it was fun to see how it all connects together. We started nice and early (left the house before sunrise) which was great because it wasn't as hot and didn't get too crowded until we were about halfway. The girls love riding fast in the bike trailer.
So how did we do a one-way bike ride? We found some friends that had a bike rack and two kids and we each started at opposite ends of the trail and then drove the other person's car home. It worked out quite well.
Sunrise on the Potomac.
Banana break.
Gravelly Point.
We may be ready to attempt the round trip version next time, but probably without the kids for Ben's sake. He did most of the work pulling 60+ pounds behind him.
Wow. I'm impressed.
